- The largest national park in Tanzania with an area of 20,226 sq km, Ruaha National Park is a major avifauna site with over 571 species of birdlife which includes the hornbills.
- Located in the Kitulo Plateau, Kitulo National Park is situated at an elevation of 2,600 meters and has an immense floral diversity and was established primarily to protect that as opposed to wildlife.
- With a mere size of 1990 sq km. Udzungwa Mountains National Park is known for its primate species, six distinct species of which are found in here. Iringa red colobus and Sanje crested mangabey are endemic to this mountain.
- Located in the Katavi region, Katavi National Park is a very isolated park, albeit it is the third largest national park in Tanzania. It can only be reached by charter planes and will have to land in a dirt airstrip.
