MAHALE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

Mahale National Park is situated on a peninsular cutting out into Lake Tanganyika. It is 120 Km south of Kigoma and is dominated by Mahale Mountain chain running from north-east to the middle of the park. Its highest peak is at 2462 meter above sea level. Like Gombe, the Mahale Mountains is home to someof the last remaining wild chimpanzees in Africa. Around 700 to 1000 of them roam the hills and valleys of Mahale.
The vegetation of this park is dominated by Miombo woodlands with narrow strips of riverine forest. The park is blessed with a variety of primates which includes the like of yellow baboon, veret monkey, red and blue colobus monkey. Furthermore, there are over 200 bird species.
Characterized by thick forests, pristine water, and deserted sandy beaches. Mahale arguably is among the most beautiful national parks in Tanzania.
